Now that I’ve finally finished my dining room revamp I thought I’d take a few pics and let you see the finished result.  Emptying this room to have it repainted was a major operation as this was where I stored all my vintage china and bits & pieces that I hire out for weddings and parties.  It’s also the room that I use as a work space to show potential clients what items I have for hire etc. I have also, on the odd occasion, used this room to host smaller events that I am catering for as well as styling. When I set up The Vintage Room around 6 years ago I did the catering side of the business as well as the styling but quickly realised that it was too time consuming to do both so decided to concentrate on the styling. Recently however I have taken on a couple of smaller catering jobs  and it’s nice to be able to combine them both.

So after the mammoth job of packing up the china was done I got the decorator in to paint the room and sent my dark mahogany  dining room furniture off to be sprayed. I used the same company who had resprayed my kitchen units as I was so pleased with their work and they did a great job once again!

I recovered the chair pads myself using a pink & white checked Laura Ashley curtain which I had left over from a few years ago and also made a cushion for the bench in the alcove at the window.

 

I decided to paint my large dark wooden bookcase in a pale green and did it one night when the painter went home. I got a telling off from him the next morning as he said there were green paint splashes on the newly painted pink walls? As usual I stuck to Laduree type pastels and really loved the pink and green combination of colours??

My dining room unit was originally in two parts with a display unit on top but I decided to just use the sideboard part for the time being and put the top half into storage in case I decide to have it painted at a later date.

I really took my time deciding what to put on the wall above the sideboard and left it without anything for a while. I really didn’t want to spend lots of money buying pictures or frames so hung a Laura Ashley pic from years ago in the centre and then tried lots of different smaller pics and mirrors on either side of it but wasn’t happy with any of them! I’m a big fan of symmetry so suddenly had the idea of hanging similar vintage plates on each side of the pic and when I tried it I was delighted with the overall result.

On the sideboard I have a Laura Ashley lamp along with some cake stands, candlesticks & vintage postcards and on either side of the sideboard I have an upcycled tea trolley with books and my pink Crosley record player. I also have my wreath made from my vintage brooch collection hanging on the wall as I thought it was too pretty to store away after Christmas!

I’m really delighted with the finished result and I have  a spare  table in the garage which fits  in the dining room along with this one giving me seating for 16-18 people which is fab for special occasions!
